Genesis 31:1-55 talk about how Jacob run from Laban after tension grow between dem. Laban chase him, but dem make a covenant at Gilead to keep peace.
1 Jacob hear say Laban pikin dem dey talk among demself say, “Jacob don carry all our papa wealth. Na from our papa own e take get all dis riches.”
2 Jacob come notice say Laban no dey look am with better eye like before.
3 Then God tell Jacob say, “Make you go back to your papa land and your family. I go dey with you.”
4 Jacob call Rachel and Leah go bush where e dey take care of him animals.
5 He tell dem say, “I don see say una papa no dey happy with me like before. But di God wey my papa serve dey with me.”
6 “Una sabi say I don serve una papa with all my power.”
7 “But una papa don try wayo me many times, e don change my salary ten times, but God no gree make e do me bad.”
8 “When e talk say, ‘Na only di spotted animal go be your own,’ na dem go dey born pass. When e change mouth say, ‘Na only di striped one go be your own,’ na dem come plenty.”
9 “So God don take una papa animals give me.”
10 “One time, when di animals dey mate, I see for dream say all di male goat wey dey mate get stripe, spot, and color.”
11 “Di angel of God call me for di dream, e say, ‘Jacob!’ I say, ‘I dey here.’”
12 “Di angel say, ‘Look well well, all di male goat wey dey mate get stripe, spot, and color. Na me make am be like dat because I don see di way Laban dey do you wayo.’”
13 “I be di God wey appear to you for Bethel, where you pour oil on stone altar. Now, make you stand up, comot from here, go back to your papa land.”
14 Rachel and Leah answer Jacob say, “We no even get any share for our papa house again.”
15 “E don treat us like strangers. E use di money wey e collect for us just waste am.”
16 “All di riches wey God take from our papa, na our own and our pikin own. So, anything wey God tell you, do am.”
Jacob and Him Family Run from Laban
17 So Jacob carry all him pikin dem and him wives, put dem for camel.
18 E gather all di animals and wealth wey e get for Paddan-aram, make e go meet him papa Isaac for Canaan land.
19 That time, Laban don go far go shear him sheep, so Rachel come steal di idol wey belong to her papa.
20 Jacob no tell Laban say e wan run comot.
21 So e run with everything wey e get, cross di Euphrates River, dey head go Gilead.
Laban Chase Jacob
22 Three days later, dem tell Laban say Jacob don run.
23 Laban gather him brother dem, chase Jacob for seven days until e catch am for Gilead.
24 But for night, God warn Laban for dream say, “Make you no talk anything bad or good give Jacob.”
25 When Laban reach Jacob place, Jacob don pitch tent for di mountain. Laban and him pipo pitch tent for di same mountain.
26 Laban tell Jacob say, “Why you run go like dis, carry my pikin dem like say dem be slaves?”
27 “Why you run in secret, without tell me? I for give you better send-off with song, drum, and joy.”
28 “You no even allow me kiss my pikin dem and my grandpikin.” You do foolish tin.
29 “I fit do you bad, but di God wey your papa serve don warn me say make I no touch you.”
30 “But why you steal my gods?”
Jacob and Laban Argument
31 Jacob answer, “I run because I dey fear say you fit collect your daughters from me by force.”
32 “Anybody wey you see say carry your gods, make e no live. If you see anything wey be your own among my things, take am.” But Jacob no sabi say na Rachel steal di idol.
33 So Laban enter Jacob tent, enter Leah tent, enter di two servant wives tent, but e no see anything.
34 Rachel don hide di idol inside camel load wey she sit down on top.
35 When Laban reach Rachel side, she tell am say, “My lord, make you no vex say I no fit stand up, na because my body dey do me.” So Laban search everything but e no see di idol.
36 Jacob vex, he tell Laban say, “Wetin be my offence? Why you dey pursue me?”
37 “You don search everything, wetin you see wey be your own? Put am here make my people and your people judge di matter.”
38 “For twenty years I don dey with you, I take care of your sheep and goat, I no use any of dem do party.”
39 “If lion or wild animal kill any of your sheep, I no carry come give you, na me dey bear di loss.”
40 “Day and night I suffer, cold catch me for night, sun beat me for day.”
41 “For twenty years I don work for you. I work fourteen years for your two daughters, and six years for di animals. You change my salary ten times.”
42 “If no be di God of my papa, di God of Abraham and Isaac, you for send me away empty-handed. But God see my suffering and warn you yesterday night.”
Jacob and Laban Make Agreement
43 Laban tell Jacob say, “Di women na my pikin dem, di pikin na my grandpikin, di animals na my own. But wetin I fit do today to my daughters or dem pikin?”
44 “Make we make agreement, and let am serve as witness between me and you.”
45 So Jacob take one big stone, he put am as pillar.
46 He tell him people make dem gather stone, dem make heap of stone, dem chop for dia.
47 Laban call di place Jegar-sahadutha, but Jacob call am Galeed.
48 Laban say, “Dis heap of stone go be witness between me and you.”
49 “May di Lord watch over me and you when we no see each other.”
50 “If you treat my daughters bad, or marry another wife, even if nobody dey see am, God go see am.”
51 “Dis heap of stone and di pillar na witness.”
52 “Dis pillar go show say I no go cross come harm you, and you no go cross come harm me.”
53 “May di God of Abraham and Nahor judge between us.” Jacob swear by di name of di God of his papa Isaac.
54 Then Jacob make sacrifice for di mountain, he invite him people chop.
55 Early morning, Laban wake up, kiss him daughters and dem pikin, bless dem, then he go back to him place.
