Genesis 33:1-20 talk about how Jacob meet Esau again after many years. They reconcile, and Jacob offer gifts to Esau as a sign of peace.
1 Jacob look up, and he see Esau dey come with 400 men. So he divide him children among Leah, Rachel, and di two maidservants.
2 He put di maidservants and dem pikin for front, Leah and her children for middle, then Rachel and Joseph for back.
3 Jacob waka go front, bow down seven times as he dey near Esau.
Esau and Jacob Reconcile
4 But as Esau see Jacob, he run go meet am, hug am, hold am for neck, and dem begin cry together.
5 Esau look up, see di women and children, he ask, “Who be all dis people wey dey with you?”
Jacob answer, “Na di children wey God bless your servant with.”
6 Di maidservants and dem pikin come near, bow down.
7 Leah and her children come near, bow down. Last last, Joseph and Rachel come near, bow down too.
8 Esau ask, “Wetin be all dis animals wey I meet for road?”
Jacob answer, “Na gift for you, my lord, so you fit favor me.”
9 Esau say, “My brother, I get enough already. Make you keep your own.”
10 But Jacob say, “No, if I don find favor for your eye, take di gift. Seeing your face today be like say I see God face, because you don accept me.”
11 “Abeg take di gift wey I bring come, because God don bless me well well and I get plenty.” So Esau take am.
Esau and Jacob Go Different Ways
12 Esau say, “Make we move go back together, I go waka with you.”
13 But Jacob say, “My lord, you sabi say di pikin dem still small, and di animals wey get young ones no fit waka fast. If dem force dem, dem fit die.”
14 “My lord, make you go ahead. I go follow una small small until I reach Seir.”
15 Esau say, “Okay, make I leave some of my men with you.”
Jacob answer, “No need, my lord. I don already find favor for your eye.”
16 So Esau waka go back to Seir dat day.
17 But Jacob go another place, he settle for Succoth. He build house for himself and shade for him animals. Na why di place dey called Succoth (Shelter).
Jacob Build Altar for God
18 Later, Jacob reach Shechem for Canaan land, and he set up camp near di city.
19 He buy one piece of land from di children of Hamor, Shechem papa, for 100 silver pieces.
20 There, he build one altar and name am El-Elohe-Israel (God of Israel).
